At some point in the 1970's, Nathaniel Essex (aka Mr. Sinister) funded a private cooperation in America called SynTech. It's goal was to explore and capitalize on genetics, while acting as a cover for his own underground experiments at the time. Sinister soon left the cooperation, moving onto other projects, but the company remained, exploring new avenues in biochemistry and cutting edge genetic research.
In 1985, they began to look into mutant DNA. By 1988, they believed they had the knowledge and tools to begin creating their own seperate evolution of mutants. To be able to do so would be to eventually corner the market on reproductive products, in vitro procedures and likely even being able to control whether or not a child would grow up to become a mutant. In 1989, taking mutant DNA samples they had access to (some left behind by Sinister himself) they created a batch of supersperm.
Little is known about the young woman who was selected to breed this supersperm. Her name was Yuki Akutsu, a 14 year old runaway from a strict Japanese-American home. Whether she was taken against her will from the streets, or willingly submitted herself to the company isn't known. What is known is that once impregnated, she bonded closely with her child and gave their care up to SynTech's scientists.
Jin Akutsu was closely monitered from conception, and was born April 2, 1990. Since his parentage was so mixed, his shock of gray-tinted white hair and yellow-gold eyes wasn't an entire shock. Other than his appearence, he seemed to be a completely normal child, if more naturally quick to learn. Yuki adored him, and was allowed to raise her son in the confines of the laboratories as she saw fit.
That changed by small increments until Jin turned ten. He was a quick study and took to physical activites immediately, but chafed under authority, equally quick to defiance. His caretakers had already been introducing him into things such as martial arts and even some military-grade programs, with phenomenal results. He was watched closely as he hit puberty, and his dominant mutant powers became evident.
He shocked his mother one day, while showing her a series of katas he'd learned, he suddenly stopped, hearing something in the other room. As the sounds became clearer to him, his ears shifted and disappeared, two large wolf ears appearing on top of his head. After the revelation, he was scrutinized that day until the scientists were satisfied to note to what extent his powers went.
After that, although he'd been studied all of his life, Jin rebelled against the scrutiny. He became tempermental and moody, even with his mother, and ran away several times to explore life outside of the labs. What happened to him on these outings isn't known, but it had a profound effect on him, and by 13, he was pressuring his mother constantly to run away with him, that they could live without the labs or the company.
In an effort to control him, the company sent Jin and Yuki to their branch in Hokkaido, Japan. However, Jin adapted quickly around the Japanese and took to running away again. Unable to keep him in the labs when he was able to overpower or slip past almost any security, they decided coersion was in order. They seperated Jin from Yuki, and at 16, he was sent to a lab installation in Tokyo, for study and research into mutant-altering substances.
Enraged at being seperated from his mother, and unable to break out of the maximum security faciilty at the time, he bided his time at the installation until he was 17. By then, a new mutant had been brought to the labs, one Dan Taichi. The two struck up an immediate friendship, and once Jin understood that Dan was being subjected to experiments because of his powers, he forcibly broke out of the building, taking Dan with him.
For a couple of weeks they lived on the streets of Tokyo, in back alleys and anywhere Jin could find to keep Dan's obvious physical mutation out of sight. Deciding they'd be better off finding somewhere where there was shelter, they started breaking into abandoned buildings or old vacant apartments. Despite a deep desire to find his mother, keeping Dan safe took precendence, and it wasn't until Jin happened to break into a large house that seemed run down and vacant that they met Banji. The two were recruited into the Brotherhood, even after Jin attacked Banji after they were discovered. By 18, Jin was a prominent member, embracing the ideals of the Brotherhood, if still not entirely obediant to authority. During this time he also became aware of having an attraction to Dan whenever he was stripped of his animalistic powers. He's never acted on it though, mostly due to Dan's apparent youth and innocence.
Taking to thievery and mugging in order to help care for Dan and other members of the Brotherhood that he was now unofficially starting to train, Jin happened across a tall redhead. When he tried to take his possessions, the other, one Amane 'Davide' Hikaru, revealed that he was a mutant and fought back. The two were interrupted by SynTech's private security, sent to locate and bring Jin and Dan back to the labs. Both mutants were brought down by tranquilizer darts and brought back to the installation. In an effort to control Jin, his mother Yuki was used against him, rendering him reluctantly agreeing to be sedated, then injected with their latest mood-altering serum. However, instead of mellowing Jin and making him more obedient, it bolstered his already aggressive nature and sent him into a violently mad berserker mode. While he attacked and tore apart the scientists and the security, Yuki broke free and rushed to release Davide, begging him to help even as she put herself in Jin's path, trying to reach him. It worked, for a moment. He recognized his mother, but one of the remaining security guards grabbed her, attempting to control him through her. In the process of killing the guard, Yuki was also attacked viciously before he could stop himself. Horrified and faltering under the drugs after-effects, he allowed Davide to break him out of the labs and followed him. Along the way, desperately needing an emotional anchor, he had a tryst with Davide in an alley and the two moved on to Davide's apartment.
Yuki Akutsu is presumed dead.
Currently, Jin has returned to the Brotherhood. He's continued a somewhat relationship with Davide, and is only now realizing that his power has bound the redhead to him as a 'mate'.
Personality:
Jin is a very blunt, straightforward person. He does have a sense of humor buried past the moodiness and gruffness, but it runs to dry sarcasm at best. Otherwise, it's safe to say he is a very angry person most of the time. He's also very restless, and keeps to himself mostly. Dan (and now Davide) seems to be the only one able to get close to him without having to be cautious. When he does give his trust to someone, which is extremely rare, he's loyal. He's also very thorough in whatever he does, and prefers to do things himself than watch someone slog through what he can do quickly. He does have a vicious streak, and can be very rough without meaning to be. Those that cross him generally end up in traction before they know what hit them. It's possible that the effects of the serum he was injected with may have long-lasting effects, including sending him back into a berserker fit if triggered.
Since his power renders him so closely to a wolf, his habits tend to reflect it. When he's not out trying to provide for the house as the 'alpha', he tends to take charge in other areas, often barking commands at his teammates and taking point in any missions. He does nap quite a bit in their downtime. Presently, he's only emotionally connected himself with Dan and Davide, making the two part of his 'pack'. He will be protective and loyal to them until the day he dies.

Yuki Akutsu once found a partial list of the donors that went into making her son. It included Victor Creed, aka Sabretooth; Kyle Gibney, aka Wild Child; and Rahne Sinclair, aka Wolfsbane. In the list was also references to the Weapon X Project and samples taken from what Sinister left behind, presumably DNA from The Marauders. The list was then taken from her, and nothing else is known entirely about Jin's parentage.
However, it explains quite a bit about his powers. Jin is an animalistic mutant, possessing greatly enhanced senses, strength, speed and reflexes. He has a healing factor about equal to Sabretooth's, and likely inherited the sour disposition from him too. Jin also has excellent night vision. Apart from that, whenever his need for his enhanced senses arise, the corrosponding part of his body involuntarily becomes lupine. For instance, if he wants to hear something across the Brotherhood mansion, his ears will disappear and he'll sprout wolf ears on top of his head. If he wants to smell something more accurately, his mouth and nose will shift into a wolf's snout. The effects aren't widespread though. He's unable to transform himself fully into a wolf, and can't voluntarily shift a part of him.
In the future, he may be able to do either, but not without much concentration and training.
